I was at Cadwell that day as a 13 year old. My mate and me were in the pits getting autographs etc, and were the last to get his autograph before he went out to race. The rest is history unfortunately. Such a talented guy. Wish I'd still got the signed race programme ...l would have gladly given it to his family.
I met Mick once in his Oxford workshop. It must have been around October '76. I had arranged with one of Mick's friends, Pete Thorn, to test ride his (Pete's) TD3 Yamaha at Brands Hatch. I was interested in buying it. On arrival at Pete's home, he informed me that the frame had a cracked weld joint under the engine but no problem, he'd already fixed for us to drop off at Mick's place on the way and he'd do a quick welding job - which he did. Mick I remember, seemed a bit put out by what was apparently Pete's last minute request for him to rescue the situation. We continued to Brands and I crashed the bike on Clearways (throttle stuck open). Nevertheless, the machine had already convinced me and so I bought it. My 1977 season was quite a good one as a result. I was racing at Keevil at the beginning of that season, Mick was acting as mechanic for his brother, who was then in his first season. A few weeks later Mick was gone. He seemed to be a really nice guy.

I will follow the tread where i nicked these pics and learn more about the man,with a name like that you would think he was Irish !!

I was 11 at the time and unfortunately I was witness to Mick’s accident. I ve never forgotten it even after all these years
